Railway Lodge on the rails to Wellington

Another great road trip for Buffs - this time via the Northern Explorer to Wellington.

Seven brothers from the Railway Lodge no. 196 and Jack Canty Lodge no. 211 travelled to Wellington for the exaltation of Bro Paul Strong. As is often the case with road trips, the ceremony itself was only part of the fun.

The trip down was on the Northern Explorer, where many gattas were consumed as the world went by. Once the brothers arrived in Wellington, it was off to our accommodation at The Cambridge Hotel, not far from Courtenay Place. The brothers then took in the cultural and historical sites of Wellington, including the former Lodge hall (now Bats Theatre) on our way to visit Te Papa. After some visits to local gatta provisioners, the brothers again retired to the Cambridge.

Saturday was the big day for the exaltation ceremony. Our compliments to the Victory no. 21 lodge for a very well ceremony, which was held at the Petone Workingmen’s Club RSA room. It was great to see many brothers from the different Buffalo orders and lodges, including many familiar faces.

Saturday night was, of course, time to watch the Warriors smash the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Sunday it was back home again for all the brothers, this time by a much shorter flight.

All in all another great road trip - I strongly recommend if you can to come away on a road trip, it’s a great reason to have a weekend away.
